“Specifically, Intel will showcase its latest smartphone technologies and devices running the Android platform, including a new dual core, dual graphics platform, as well as OEM- and service provider-supported devices based on the company’s new Intel AtomTM Z2420 platform targeted at emerging markets,” the company said in a release.
Intel is undoubtedly the leader of Personal Computer processors, but the company has been ignored during the mobile revolution. Although it tasted some success last September, when it partnered with Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc (NYSE:MMI) to release the RAZR I smartphone fixed on Intel Midfield chip, but it has yet to witness worldwide adoption from OEMs
Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) revealed its details on its new processor series at CES in January. The company showed off Lexington Atom Z2420 “Value Smartphone” processor along with the Clover Trail+ Z2580 dual-core “performance smartphone” chip. The Z2580 is a 32 nm SoC incorporating the Power VR SGX 544 MP2 GPU. This chip is expected to be used by Lenovo Group Limited (ADR) (PINK:LNVGY) K900, and probably Intel will reveal some more handsets at WMC.
The new Atom Z2420 w/XMM 6265 chip, code-named Lexington has the following competitive specifications, performance and features:
  • Runs Google’s Android,
  • The 1.2 GHz Atom processor Z2420 with hyper threading has up to 1.2GHz,
  • Dual sim cards,
  • Intel XMM 6265 HSPA+ modem,
  • HD video encoding and decoding (1080p 30fps),
  • 1.3MP front-facing cameras, 5MP rear-facing cameras,
  • Camera support with seven-frame burst mode, and SGX540 graphics,
  • FM radio to get media contents without using your data plan,
  • Equipped with micro SD card slot to easily expands your storage(now a 32GB SD card only cost around $30),
  • Intel Wireless Display for playback on TVs or devices.
The chip maker has increased its focus on the emerging market for its smartphone initiative. Intel recently brought in the market its first smartphone in Africa with the help of Safaricom. The phone is named as “Yolo” and is based on Intel’s own smartphone reference design for the Z2420. The Company also entered into a partnership with Acer Incorporated (TPE:2353) to launch Smartphone for the Asian markets.
Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) reported revenue of $13.5 billion and earnings per share of $0.48 per share, for the fourth quarter of 2012.

Microsoft to developers: This is the 'modern.IE' world

by

Microsoft continues to overhaul its approach to, well, everything, the Internet Explorer team offers a mea culpa and a carrot to Web developers with modern.IE.
Modern.IE is a new tool from Microsoft for Web developers to make sure that their sites are built for the modern Web.

In case you weren't sure, Microsoft wants you to really, really understand that Internet Explorer 10 isn't just any old update to the much-maligned browser. The latest example: "modern.IE," a set of tools to help Web developers that the company announced today.
"It's still too hard to test sites across the different OSes and browsers," Ryan Gavin, Internet Explorer's general manager, said in a phone interview with CNET yesterday. "On our part, we can encourage best practices. We know we can do better here, so we're providing the tools and support so that developers spend more of their time innovating and less of their time testing."

"More time innovating, less time testing" was Gavin's watch-phrase of the day, something he repeated throughout our conversation. Microsoft clearly believes that modern.IE's toolset will appeal to developers.
Some developers who have used pre-release versions of the service were impressed with modern.IE.
Rachel Andrew, managing director of Web development company Edgeofmyseat.com, said to me in an e-mail: "I'm a Mac and Linux desktop user. I have Windows laptops for testing, but haven't used Windows for anything else for many years. I feel as if Microsoft [has] recognized, with modern.IE, that this is the case for a lot of Web designers and developers. Instead of trying to persuade us to use Windows, the site gives us a whole bunch of ways to test sites from our platform of choice, to ensure that people who visit our sites using Windows and IE get a great experience."
Modern.IE appears to be quite simple to use. Drop a URL into the scanning tool text field, and it kicks back a report with suggestions on how to improve your site, split into three categories. The first is a long-overdue bit of housekeeping that breaks down problems that have arisen from supporting legacy versions of Internet Explorer.

HAPPY B'DAY FACEBOOK

Facebook is 9 years old today: Here’s why it has numbers on its side.......

Facebook, the world’s largest social networking site turns nine today. With well over 1 billion users, it’s hard to believe that the site has not even been around for a decade.
The site was started on 4 February 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg when he was a sophomore (second year)  at Harvard University. Zuckerberg had launched an initial version of site, then known as Facemash in 2003 but Harvard authorities had shut it down as he had got the information for the site by hacking into administration records.
Zuckeberg relaunched Facemash as TheFacebook.com initially and the name was later changed to Facebook. In 2005, the site allowed users to upload pictures. Till date, Facebook has seen over 219 billion photos being uploaded. By September 2006, Facebook began expanding and allowed anyone over 13 to join the site. It also got the NewsFeed in 2006.
The Facebook Like was introduced much later in February 2009 and according to the company’s Q4 results, it has seen 1.13 trillion ‘likes’ since its introduction.

In the nine years, since it began Facebook has evolved drastically from what it looked like when it started. The Wall is no longer a part of the site, instead users have the Timeline, introduced in September 2011 and made compulsory for all users in January 2012.
In 2012 Facebook floated its IPO and the company went public with a peak market capitalisation of over $104 billion. The hype was short-lived and the stock of the company soon took a battering.
Nor is the site restricted to desktops as mobile is now a big part of the Facebook strategy. The company launched a slew of apps last year, from Camera to Poke to a new updated Facebook Messenger for both Android and iOS. Facebook also bought  the popular mobile photo-editing and sharing app, Instagram last year.
In January, this year Facebook announced the launch of Graph Search that allows users to search the site for photos, places, likes, people on the site. The feature has of course raised privacy concerns as with Graph Search coming in, people are apprehensive about what results Facebook will show You can check out our review of the Graph Search here. Of course Graph Search is still a beta product but it will be rolled out to all site users by the end of this year.
It was also reported by TechCrunch that Facebook has begun testing a new status composer which could let users choose from a wide range of emoticons while updating their status. The new array of visuals elements would allow users to choose their status updates from different categories to share activities such as feeling, reading, or eating or even more creative unconventional ones such as Game Of Thrones or LOTR.
Facebook is set to evolve more this year. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has indicated that in the earnings call, highlighting that mobile and new elements will be the key to the site’s future.
In less than ten years, Facebook has changed drastically. From likes to multiple tagging, to emoticons in comments, the site has come a long way. As far as competitors go, Facebook has no close rival in terms of numbers. Google Plus is at number two but has about 343 million users which is nowhere close to Facebook’s 1 billion. If one were to go according to the numbers, Facebook juggernaut is unlikely to stop anytime soon.

ISRO will never forget these astronauts

ROCKNEX NEWS

Ten years ago on February 01, 2003 the Space Shuttle Columbia tore apart upon reentry 16 minutes before it was to land.

Among the seven astronauts on board was mission specialist Dr. Kalpana Chawla, who in 1988 began to work at the Ames Research Center before being selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA in December 1994.

ISRO will never forget these astronauts nor all those who have lost their lives carrying out missions of exploration.
